How They’re Made

A workspace with clay coins, carving tools, an open sketchbook with diagrams and notes, and small hand carved stamps with engraved symbols on a wooden board.

Drawn and designed while traveling through Europe, stamps were hand carved from clay.

A collection of white circular tarot or oracle cards with engraved symbols and designs, spread out on a wooden surface.

The stamps were bisque fired, then used to make the coins themselves, smushed between the front and back stamp of the unfurling fern.

Coins are polished in a rock tumbler and then glaze fired, and drawstring bags are screen-printed with the unfurling fern.

The coins and an interpretive scroll go into the drawstring bag, and voila, a Fern’s Coins of Fortune set is made.

Because each set is handmade, there is variation in each one. All the sets contain 41 unique coins, a scroll (coin interpretation key), and come in a screen-printed drawstring bag. Our clay types vary from a mixed recycled clay, deep reds and browns, to bone white.
